Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland

Travel Dates: September 2023

Things to do in Lauterbrunnen:

Chalet Pironnet: Within a 7-minute stroll from the train station, you’ll discover a scenic spot overlooking the town. Look for a bench, which marks the vantage point. Expect a queue of people waiting here to capture the picturesque view.

Poblado Lauterbrunnen: Just a brief 3-minute walk from Chalet Pironnet, you’ll find yourself at another prime photo spot with Kirche Lauterbrunnen, the local church. Follow the walking path on the left side of the church that runs alongside the river. This leisurely stroll offers breathtaking views of the valley, making it a perfect addition to your explorations.

Staubbach Waterfall & Hike: Venturing further south of the town, just a 7-minute walk from Poblado Lauterbrunnen, brings you to Lauterbrunnen’s main waterfall. You can embark on a short hike that takes you behind Staubbachfall. The adventure begins with an 8-minute climb up a steep hill, followed by a 2-minute walk through a tunnel leading to a metal staircase. Take extra caution at this point as the path can be slippery. It’s advisable to wear sturdy sneakers or hiking boots, and clothes you don’t mind getting a bit wet since the wind often carries water from the falls. Ascend a path with rock steps for approximately 5 minutes, and you’ll find yourself standing directly behind the waterfall. From this unique vantage point, you’ll enjoy a panoramic view of the town.

Heim-egg: Approximately a 15-minute walk from Poblado Lauterbrunnen, away from the town and up the steep hills, awaits a hidden gem offering breathtaking views of the valley. While the journey is a bit challenging, it’s highly rewarding.

At one point you’ll come across a bench under a tree, marking a fork in the road. Opt for the path on the right, which continues for a few more minutes. This hiking/biking path will lead you to a secluded viewpoint, where you can take time to savor the views and listen to the waterfall in the distance.

Paragliding: Just like in Interlaken, Lauterbrunnen also has paragliding opportunities here where you can enjoy beautiful views of the valley.

Tips when getting to Lauterbrunnen:

To reach Lauterbrunnen by train, you’ll need to make a transfer at Interlaken Ost (make sure to not get off at Interlaken West). Listen closely to the train announcements, as they will indicate the platform for your connection. Additionally, right before each platform, there are signs displaying the destination, helping you confirm you’re in the right place. Be prepared for large crowds of tourists, especially during peak times when many travelers are heading to the mountains and the Alps. Due to the high volume of passengers, trains may depart a few minutes later than scheduled to accommodate everyone. If you happen to miss your train, don’t worry; you’ll just need to wait a bit for the next one.

For the best experience, try to secure a window seat or stand by the windows. You’ll be able to enjoy the views during the trip.
